Abstract

The factors which affect the internal climate of old buildings include 1) natural ventilation (the stack effect occurs when a large change in temperature causes air circulation varying with wind, external climate, and the effect of height and volume on natural ventilation), 2) heating and the resulting condensation, 3) relative humidity and vapor pressure, 4) air conditioning, and 5) insulation, which is a buffer against a significant change in relative humidity but which can cause interstitial condensation.
