Recent research at the Conservation Analytical Laboratory, Smithsonian Institution, on environmental standards within museums is summarized. "Flatlining", the practice of trying to maintain unchanging temperature and humidity in the museum year-round, may not be necessary, and fluctuations within a "safe" range may be possible.
