Abstract

Adaptive reuse of old buildings has become an increasingly common feature of urban regeneration; reuse of historic buildings should also incorporate energy efficiency, low carbon emissions, improved environmental performance, economic sustainability and cultural identity. Many current buildings will still be around in the next 100 years, so strategies that combine energy efficiency with adaptive reuse of historic buildings must become a codified process. This chapter analyses some good practices and strategies for defining the best reuse solutions.
